The Pond

We had such fun at the pond last night! The weather cooperated and it was overcast but not rainy or even muddy. 15 beavers played games in the clearing and came up with theories about what makes a pond different from a lake. Then Scouter Tim picked up a slug to show the children and we learned that when they are scared, slugs might squish up into almost a BALL. How cool.

The Beaver Scouts quickly noticed a pile of sticks and mud in the corner of the pond. “A Beaver Lodge!” We walked around the side of the pond and then we SAW it. The Beaver! swimming around the pond, diving for food, and generally putting on a good show for us. How lucky we were to see it! We were all delighted.

We then made our Code of Conduct, and agreed to be kind and not hit each other, or push each other into the water, or step on people under us. These were all good rules. There were also some pretty cool spiders.

Thursday Sept 17 Meeting Location

Are Beavers afraid of a little rain? No way!  Our meeting on September 17 is OUTDOORS.

We are going to Glenlyon Urban Trail. If road work is still on, turn LEFT off Boundary onto Marine. Turn right on Glenlyon. Follow Glenlyon until you see me at the little lookout.

Beavers and Parents and guests are kindly reminded to dress warm and waterproof.   Umbrellas, rain boots, etc. might be required.

At this meeting, we will be learning about ponds and urban wetlands. We will also be creating our Beaver Scout Charter.

I went and checked out the site tonight. Looks like the stormy weather has felled some trees and part of the trail is closed for maintenance, so we will have a pond visit and come back for a forest walk in spring.

Offsite Meetings Procedures: Be on time (arrive between 6:20 and 6:30pm). A scouter will have the Guest Book. Check in with the Scouter. At the end of the meeting, meet the Scouter and Check Out before you leave.
