Our Second Meeting

At our second meeting we played some cooperation games and got to know each other a bit better. We also made awesome nametags using paper punches and some fancy paper.  Beavers sure are creative!

Song Lyrics for our September 18 meeting:

Hermie the Worm:

Sittin’ on the fencepost

Chewing my bubblegum (smack smack smack smack)

Playin’ with my yo-yo (whoo whoo)

And along came Hermie the Worm

And he was this big

And I said, “Hermie, what happened?”

I ate my mother/ my father/ my brother / my sister /I burped.

(Actions: Playin with my yo-yo: Act like using a yo-yo. This big: Use fingers to show how big he is. For the first time, show him small. Each time, make him bigger. Then, on the last verse (I burped), show him small again. What happened?: Shrug shoulders).

Next week: we are going OUTDOORS for a little nature exploration at a local park.  Beavers must be wearing appropriate rain gear! This means boots and a rain coat!

Our First Meeting

What a turnout for our first meeting! We had almost 20 children join us for games and an introduction to our leaders and our opening and closing ceremony.

Parents: please remember to SIGN IN and SIGN OUT your children at the front desk every week.

We sang this call-and-response song:

Mighty Mighty Beavers

(Leader sings a line and all repeat) Start singing lightly and increase volume every time song repeated.

Everywhere we go-o
People want to know-o
Who are we?
Where do we come from?
So we tell them
We are the Beavers
Mighty, mighty Beavers
And if you can’t hear us
We’ll sing a little louder.

We were happy to see a number of parents ready to volunteer on a full- or part-time basis. Once the numbers are in from the volunteer registration forms, we will be communicating with our wait list.

Now: the plans for next week!  Some of our new kids were feeling pretty shy – and some of our new kids were feeling just the opposite! So next week we’ll be making name tags and playing some fun get-to-know-you games to bring our group closer together.  Before we know it, we’ll all be the best of friends.
