Dear Beaver Families,
I wanted to provide you with an update about Colony scouting during the COVID-19 period. None of us know how long we will have to remain safe at home, but we should assume that for near future we will not be able to meet in person. Burnaby Beaver Colonies are planning fun local scouting adventures that we can run as soon as physical distancing is lifted, even in the summer.
We are all facing new challenges. Many of us are facing working from home, financial uncertainty, lack of childcare and learning to home school our children. All of us are doing the best we can.
Scouting is a way for the whole family to have fun, getting outdoors and having new adventures together.
Scouting groups across the country are using Zoom video conferencing to have meetings. They have had virtual campfires, taught skills, and shared with each other about their adventures. Youth can show and tell about their badge work. It is fun to see each other online.
Our Virtual Colony Program looks like this:
Weekly Email Activity; Weekly 30 minute Zoom Meeting @ 6:30pm on Thursdays (Uniforms required); Independent Personal Achievement Badge Work and Outdoor Adventure Skill Badge Work
Participation is optional. Each week, you and your Beaver Scout can choose to do as much or as little as you like.
The weekly activity may include a printable worksheet or craft. Your Beaver Scout may also need craft scissors, crayons, tape, glue, and help with reading. Please email me if you do not have access to a printer or paper.
We hope you and your Beaver Scout will join us.
Our first Colony Zoom will be tomorrow. Details for the Zoom will come in a separate Event Email.
Yours in Scouting,
Scouter Rosie
