Hi Beaver Families!
The Beaver Scout year is coming to a close in mid-June! If your child has made progress on Personal Achievement or Outdoor Adventure Skill badges, please EMAIL ME right away so we can get these awarded before the close of the year.
I have Language strips for French and Chinese. Please email me if your youth can carry on a conversation (both speaking and understanding) in either of these languages. If your child speaks and understands another language, please email me and I can obtain language strips as required.
Early Registration
Scouts Canada announced by email that Early Registration for returning members has begun! From May 1 through May 14, you have first opportunity to register for next year! On May 15, registration opens to the public and we can no longer save you a spot.
Returning youth (and siblings) in Kindergarten, Grade 1, or Grade 2 this September, will register in BEAVERS. Beavers will continue to meet on Thursdays at our same hall, from 6:30-7:30pm.
Returning youth (and siblings) who will be in Grade 3 or 4 this September will register in CUBS. Cubs meets on Tuesdays at our same hall, from 7-8:30pm.
I have attached Spring Registration Instructions for you. Please note: if you are experiencing financial hardship that might prevent your youth from continuing in Scouts, please contact No One Left Behind (NOLB). This is a Scouts Canada program that reduces fee for low income families.
Volunteer with us
We need 2-3 parents and/or high school youth to join us as registered volunteers on a full or part-time basis for our weekly meetings or weekend events. To become a volunteer with Scouts there is screening and training to do. It is easy to do these things and it makes a HUGE difference to our programming to have you sign up as a volunteer. If you have questions about volunteering please contact me.
If you are not coming back please consider donating the uniforms back to the group.
White Tail Parents: Your youth have been working hard on their Northern Lights Project. Part of the Northern Lights Quest was attempting to get 5 Outdoor Adventure Skill Badges. I have compiled my records of their achievements and will be emailing you all separately to confirm.
Upcoming Special Events So Far (Scoutstracker invites will also be sent)
Saturday May 12: You are invited to attend an optional weekend event at Owl (Orphaned Wildlife) Rehabilitation Society on Saturday, May 12th at 1:00. On that day 1st Southwest Beavers will have the chance to donate 4 bird boxes that the white tails have built over the past month. We will make the donation at 1:00 followed by a guided tour of the facility by OWL staff. The event will be ~1 hour in duration. There is no cost to attend, although if your child is attending we require that parents stay for the duration of the tour.
